Biking on the North Shore

The North Shore offers fantastic cycling for every level, whether you’re on a mountain bike or a road bike.

For mountain bikers, the trails around Lutsen Mountains provide a mix of technical singletrack and flowy descents through dense forest and rocky terrain. Nearby Temperance River State Park also offers rugged, scenic mountain bike paths that showcase the region’s natural beauty. A bit further south, the Split Rock Wilds Trail near Beaver Bay is well worth the drive. This extensive network features varied terrain and stunning views, making it a favorite among serious mountain bikers and a great stop if you’re heading up the shore.

If you prefer paved routes, the Gitchi-Gami State Trail is a standout. This 60-mile paved trail stretches from Two Harbors to Grand Marais, hugging the Lake Superior shoreline and passing through charming towns like Tofte and Lutsen. It’s perfect for family rides, scenic cruises, or a relaxed way to explore the North Shore’s breathtaking views.

For a shorter, beginner-friendly ride close to the resort, check out the trails around Cascade River State Park—they offer beautiful forest paths with moderate terrain.

After your ride, come back to Ours Resort to relax on your porch, fire up the grill, and share stories about the day’s adventures. Whether you’re chasing technical trails or cruising lakeside, the North Shore’s biking scene has something for every rider.
